Chat Branches and Summaries

Version 3.3 gives you two ways to continue a conversation in a new chat. Both keep a link back to the original so you can revisit the source.

Branch from a message

  1. Open the actions for a user message or AI answer.
  2. Choose Start New Chat from Here.
  3. Choose the messages you want to carry over.
  4. Select the destination connection and model, or keep the current choices.
  5. Create the new chat and continue from that context.

This is useful for exploring another approach or asking a different model about the same material. The original conversation remains available.

Continue with a summary

  1. Open the chat menu and choose Compact into New Chat.
  2. Check the connection and model shown for summarization.
  3. Use the summary-length slider to choose how much detail to preserve.
  4. Tap Generate Summary and review the result.
  5. Tap Start New Chat when you are satisfied.

The new conversation starts from the reviewed summary of the whole chat. It does not also copy the most recent messages. Short conversations can be summarized too. Changing the summary length requires a new summary before continuing.

Summary settings and context limits

The connection's Chat Compaction settings let you choose an alternate summary connection or model and configure context warnings. Check the destination shown before generating, since the conversation is sent to that connection for summarization.

If the model's context size cannot be detected, set it in the original connection's Chat Compaction settings and try again. The app checks that the continuation leaves room for a reply and shows creation errors in the sheet.

To share a conversation outside the app, use Chat Exports.
